Annual Wellness Exam and Vaccines

For many years, vaccines have been considered to be the core of veterinary care. Now, thanks to new information and research, we know that every vaccine does not need to be given every year and not every vaccine is appropriate for every animal. At Bannerman Pet Care, we follow the guidelines established by the American Animal Hospital Association and the American Association of Feline Practitioners for the administration of vaccines, which encourages patients to be treated on an individual basis. A thorough wellness exam should be done on your pet at least once a year (sometimes more often if your pet is older or has chronic health issues). At this visit, your pet’s history can be obtained or updated and your veterinarian can help you determine which vaccines or other medical services might be needed. In this way, your pet’s medical care is tailored to his/her specific needs – no “cookie cutter” medicine!
